Tell them what you want, just don't tell them the Truth- after all, come 2009, it won't matter a damn bit!

City Council vs. the Cleveland Police Department

As I read Sunday's edition of the Metro Section - February 10th, an article by Mark Puente, "Cleveland Police Looking to Arm Up" - there it was again! Another "ward baron" (city council member) - Mr. Conwell - states, "Over my dead body, that's how I feel about that, they need a better relationship with the community. There's a lack of trust."

Well, Mr. Conwell, I find your remarks truly baffling, knowing what I know about the massive needs and shortcomings when it comes to our safety forces! The men and women of the Cleveland Police Department may not be able to say this, but you can damn sure bet I can... it's a 2 way street, pal, when it comes to that Trust business you constantly bring up!

Let's not kid ourselves here! We're in a war for this city's survival! Safety and security is paramount! Now allow me to mention a few other items our safety forces MUST have to insure that safety and security. Patrol Rifles, ammo cans per vehicle and per person... remember, we're in a war here! Side arms? Nothing less than a .45 ACP, equipped with the latest tac light. How can our safety forces not have with them at all times, take-home police radios? Homeland Security comes to my mind here on that one, and let's not forget, most of the Cleveland Safety Forces reside in the City of Cleveland! What must they use in case of a emergency? Their own cell phones!

Cleveland City Council can cloud this issue all they want... but there's a groundswell of public support currently festering on the necessary tools for our safety forces, and Mr. Conwell, please understand one other thing here: When the only tool in your toolbox is a hammer, all your problems then become nails! Can I make it any clearer than that?
